EmeShield Pro Plus ™ Awarded Tax Credit Status that Saves Homeowners Money when Insulating Basements and Crawl Spaces

Romeoville, IL (PRWEB) May 20, 2009 -- The EmeShield Pro Plus ™, Emecole's basement waterproofing and indoor air quality (http://www.emecole.com/anti-radon/index.html) system, which launched last month, has been awarded eligibility for a special Tax Credit Certification by the government. It allows homeowners to save up to $1,500 while insulating raw basement or crawl spaces against the health hazards of moisture presence and subsequent mold spore/allergen development.

The EmeShield Pro Plus ™ developed by Emecole, Inc., now qualifies for the 2009 and 2010 Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit for a primary residence. A tax credit of 30 percent of material costs is available for qualified home insulating improvements. For example, if the total cost of materials is $2,800, the tax credit would equal $840. The tax credit program has a cap of $1,500.

The benefits go beyond the economic stimulus of tax credits. Emecole President Lou Cole says the special status allows homeowners to also make crucial health upgrades by improving the indoor air quality control of a home, which begins with basement waterproofing. (http://www.emecole.com) It's important for contractors to educate homeowners who are unaware that the tax credit is available and that a little moisture might mean big health problems.

"Mold loves moisture. And mold can cause nasal and sinus congestion, cough, wheezing, sore throat, eye irritation - a lot of health problems. Get rid of the moisture in a basement or crawl space, and indoor air quality throughout your clients' homes improves dramatically."

EmeShield Pro Plus ™ is the only Zero Perm vapor barrier product available. The rating of 0.000 means it effectively stops moisture from passing through exposed crawl spaces and basement walls and floors.

Also, the Emecole innovation is easy to work with, despite its heavy-duty 60 mil thickness. Typically, a heavy liner vapor barrier is 20 mil thick, difficult to maneuver into tight spaces and awkward to install. The 60 mil EmeShield Pro Plus ™ weighs only about 53 lbs per 1,000 sq feet. Compare that to 100 lbs per 1000 sq feet for thinner barriers. And EmeShield is easy to cut, with closed-cell foam sandwiched between outer skins of interwoven white scrim and aluminum foil.

Not only is EmeShield Pro Plus ™ effective for basement and crawl space sealing (http://www.emecole.com), the liner is fire-retardant and can provide a finished look. Homeowners who can't afford to renovate a basement can transform a raw space into a livable room by facing out the liner's white surface. This can become an important income stream for contractors whose clients are feeling pinched by the economy.

Another option is to face out the foil skin. Use this pre-finished method only when a full basement renovation is planned. Either way, the aluminum side will prevent loss of heat while keeping out moisture.

EmeShield Pro Plus ™ is also the ultimate sealing system for crawl spaces and it comes with a 25-year warranty.

The unique design of the new Emecole liner makes it an ideal pad for carpets and laminate flooring. Homeowners enjoy some cushioning from the closed-cell foam, while preventing moisture from passing through porous concrete floors. When carpet becomes soggy, it invites mold to embed and grow. An unsealed basement or crawl space floor will also allow deadly radon gas to permeate the living space and rise throughout the home. "Basement waterproofing and crawl space sealing is essential before beginning any home renovation project," says Cole.

"No longer does Mr. Homeowner go to the basement, get a wet sock and complain. Now he realizes the moisture may harm indoor air quality. Now he takes action, with the help of a knowledgeable contractor."

Homeowners are advised to consult tax advisors before claiming the 2009 and 2010 Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit deduction. To qualify, projects must be installed from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.

Emecole has evolved into a full provider of products and solutions for basement waterproofing contractors and crawl space sealing and insulation installers. Its concrete crack injection systems and patented tools have been tested, developed and manufactured since 1987.
